    📍HAMIT NAFIZ PAMIR (1892–1976)
    Born in Thessaloniki. After earning his PhD in geology from the University of Geneva, he returned to Turkey in 1915.
    In 1916, together with W. Penck, he established the Geology Institute at Istanbul Darülfünun (later Istanbul University).
    In 1933, he became an ordinarius professor and trained generations of geologists over his 50-year career.

    📌 Served as the Director General of MTA in two separate terms.
    📌 Led the preparation of Turkey’s 1:800,000 and 1:500,000 geological maps.
    📌 Published over 40 scientific papers.
    📌 Founded the Turkish Geological Society in 1946 to foster collaboration among geologists.
    📌 Member of several European geological and natural science academies.

    We remember this great teacher and pioneer of geology in Turkey with deep gratitude.
