to read the secrets of life in the folds of a fossil.
They walk along steep cliffs and lonely trails,
under scorching sun or in freezing cold—
not only to understand the past,
but to help build the future.
Geology is tough.
But every hardship holds a discovery,
an answer,
a truth.
And that’s why geology is a passion—
a love.
It is curiosity.
It is exploration.
It is companionship.
It is the union of mind and hammer (mente et malleo).
And sometimes,
it’s sharing a squashed tomato from the bottom of your backpack…
