These lands once raised pioneers who transformed geology into a path of science and enlightenment. One of the most influential among them was Prof. Malik Sayar, a founding figure of modern Turkish geology.
Born in 1892, Sayar studied geology in France before returning to Istanbul to teach and conduct groundbreaking research on Turkey’s rocks and fossils.
Throughout his career at Istanbul University and later at the Technical University, he trained generations of geologists and played a vital role in establishing laboratories, academic chairs, and the Faculty of Mining. He earned the title Ordinaryüs Professor in 1954 and passed away in 1965.
Prof. Malik Sayar remains a guiding light for all who believe in science in Türkiye; we remember him with respect.
