\ud83d\udccdSIRRI ERIN\u00c7 (1918\u20132002)
Graduating top of his class, Erin\u00e7 enrolled in the Geography Department of Istanbul University. With special permission from Minister Hasan \u00c2li Y\u00fccel, he studied geology instead of history courses \u2014 becoming the first in Turkey to study geography and geology simultaneously. He graduated in 1940 and became a research assistant the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\ud83d\udccc In 1944, he demonstrated that the Black Sea Mountains had been tectonically rising since the Pleistocene.
\ud83d\udccc Published this work in Geologische Rundschau (1949), receiving praise from renowned geographer Prof. Herbert Louis.
\ud83d\udccc His 1953 book The Geography of Eastern Anatolia highlighted the region\u2019s importance for plate tectonics.
\ud83d\udccc Between 1955\u20131960, he dated the North Anatolian Fault (discovered by \u0130hsan Ketin) as younger than the Miocene \u2014 the first such dating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By merging geography and geology, Erin\u00e7 left a lasting legacy in Turkey\u2019s earth sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
